For many firms, the notes that are included in each time entry can become fairly standard. The dates and the participants change, but the work may be very similar from week to week and month to month. Even so, the more your staff enters into the notes field for each time entry, the more information you'll have weeks or even months down the road when your client or project manager wants to know "what was done for that 20 hours" in a given week.
Auto-text is like shorthand for timesheet notes. It makes note entry easier. Instead of entering a common phrase (e.g. - "conference call with the customer re XXX"), users can enter in an auto-text key (e.g. - "ccwc XXX"). Then, when the user tabs off the notes field, their auto-text key is replaced with text.
