In This Chapter |
Every invoice you create in BigTime is based on an invoice "template." The template tells BigTime how to calculate the amount(s) due, based on the time, expenses, contract terms and other information attached to a project.
This chapter will review some invoice template basics. We'll show you how to edit the templates that ship with the system, how to create your own, and how to decipher the formulas used by the BigTime invoicing engine.
Instead of a general discussion about how invoice templates work, we'll delve into some specific templates that ship with the system. We'll use those templates as a practical guide to template construction.
This chapter is not for everyone. It's really only useful if you plan on programming custom invoice formats into the system.
We assume that you are already familiar with how invoicing works in BigTime, that you've had a chance to create and modify invoices in BigTime, and that you have some experience with writing formula in a system like Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access.
If you'd like to create a custom invoice template to fit your firm's specific needs, and you aren't comfortable with editing formula like the ones we review in this chapter, then give your sales rep as call. BigTime has an entire division dedicated to professional services, and one of our consultants can help you create an invoice template as a part of a small consulting project.
